About Colten

I've been DMing and playing ttrpgs (with adults and kids) at least weekly for the past 8 years. In my local community (Pittsburgh), I've run week-long D&D camps for middle schoolers and am in the process of developing an organized after-school program. My style is instructional but flexible; I teach the game to new players so they have a grasp of the rules and are equipped to go play with others, but I will always roll with their suggestions and take the adventure where they think the fun is.

My game style

I'm a versatile DM who, if left completely to his own devices, builds grand, inter-connected worlds with many stories for players to find and engage. I design combats that are challenging and rewarding but not distressingly difficult, and that put the players at the forefront of inciting events. I offer options and structure to players, so it's always clear what they *could* do next, but am always willing to follow them off the rails (you have to be ready for that with kids!). I watch to ensure everyone has the opportunity to engage with the game and take a moment in the spotlight, and with gentle nudges encourage the players to work collaboratively and create the most fun possible for each other.
